Worship

Spiritual Wing

The Spiritual Wing helps each seeker connect with the inner self, through bhajans, remembering the Name, study and meditation.

What does the Spiritual Wing do?

The Spiritual Wing is the part of the Organisation that nurtures the inner self and awakens the divinity inherent in every person. At Samithi level its regular programmes are community and house bhajans, Nagar Sankirtan, study circles, remembering the Name, japa and meditation.

These programmes are open to people of every faith. The Organisation does not proselytise; each person is encouraged to follow their own faith better.

The aarti flame against deep darkness

“There is nothing superior to devotional singing.”

— Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Krishnashtami discourse, 6 September 2004, Prasanthi Nilayam (Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol. 37)

Activities

Main activities

  1. Bhajans

Group devotional singing at Samithis, Bhajan Mandalis and homes. Swami asked that all sing in one voice and one tune, with feeling.

Singing the Divine Name while walking through the streets at dawn, so that the whole neighbourhood is sanctified.

  3. Study circles

Group study of Swami's discourses and Vahinis, where every member contributes and the group discusses how to live the teaching.

  4. Jyothi meditation

Collective meditation on the light (Jyothi), following the method Swami gave. In Madhya Pradesh it is held collectively and regularly.

  5. Veda chanting

Learning correct pronunciation of Vedic hymns and chanting them together, including Omkaram and Suprabhatam.

  6. Akhanda Bhajan

Global Akhanda Bhajan: once a year, twenty-four hours of unbroken bhajans, joined by centres across the world.

  7. Namasmarana and Likhita Japa

Remembering the Divine Name through the day, and writing the Name as a form of japa.
